Sun and sea, that's all that matters

Sardinia is the envy of the world for the length and diversity of its coastlines. They invite to be discovered and are an incentive to return to this island year after year. Because there will always be a beach where you haven't managed to stay longer or a bay that you have only seen for a short time but that deserves to be explored a second time or just the thought of this. Maybe even want to explore the Maddalena archipelago this year, or explore the many other small islands? How about Asinara Island?

Furthermore, the Ogliastra region and also the Costa Verde are an unforgettable result for those who know this beautiful island. Here you can still experience nature in a very authentic way and enjoy untouched landscapes. Ideal for relaxing after strenuous work.

For many Sardinia is a synonym for sea, summer and vacation - the symbol of the national and international jet set is the Costa Smeralda with the famous holiday resorts Porto Cervo and Porto Retondo; The southern coasts of Villasimius, Chia and the two coasts of Alghero and Bosa are just as attractive.

However, Sardinia is not just sea and beach!

Sardinia has history and the priceless heritage that can still be discovered in many different places with archaeological relevance. All you have to do is get in a car and see the remains of nuraghi along the streets that are on the UNESCO world heritage list, such as the most famous nuraghi complex Su Nuraxi by Barumini.

The capital of Sardinia, Cagliari, invites you to take a leisurely stroll through the fascinating old town, a walk on the beach promenade directly on the city beach Poetto, a swim in the wonderful Golfo degli Angeli, which is truly heavenly, or a visit to the multi-cultural district of Marina nearby of the port.

What's the best way to get to Sardinia?

Sardinia has three airports through which you can reach the island, which are more or less busy depending on the season. Cagliari Airport is recommended for the south coast, from which it is also easy to get to Ogliastra. Olbia-Costa Smeralda Airport, on the other hand, serves the whole area of Olbia and the northeast coast of the island, while the west coast is mainly served by Alghero Airport.

North or South Sardinia?

The south coast is mostly flat and famous for the many long sandy beaches.

Here are some tips from us if your stay should be incomparable.

1) The plateau Giara di Gesturi and Nuraghe of Barumini

If you are amazed by the fauna, you must not miss the home of the Cavallini della Giara. These small wild horses, which are very rare to find, live on the Giara di Gesturi plateau in the southern inner area of the island. Between cork oaks and Mediterranean maquis, these almost extinct breeds can be found alongside numerous archaeological excavation sites, for example the Nuraghe complex by Barumini. Nuraghi are former defensive towers that rise like blunt cones in the landscape.

If you are looking for a wonderful place to stay, the Antica locanda Lunetta is recommended. In the middle of the picturesque old town of the small town of Mandas you can find this former coaching inn, which was renovated traditionally but according to the latest standards and lets the guest forget the hectic pace of everyday life.

2) With a yacht through beautiful waters

The Maddalena Archipelago is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Sardinia. Year after year, seven main islands attract snorkelers, sailors and generally those looking for relaxation through crystal-clear water, wonderful white beaches and an untouched seabed. Rent one of the wonderful boats that you can use to sail to the famous pink beach on the island of Budelli or the smaller island of Caprera.

Then indulge yourself at the Grand Hotel Ma and Ma on La Maddalena. The exclusive hotel, located just 350 meters from the dream beach, combines luxury with environmental protection. In an extensive spa you can relax and take exquisite meals in the hotel restaurant in the evening.

3) After a lot of nature in the hustle and bustle of the city

Even though it is not really a big city, Alghero in the north-west of Sardinia offers enough variety to spend a nice day in the impressive historic Gothic town. Several churches, such as the Cathedral of Santa Maria or the Chiesa San Francesco from the 14th century, testify to the past, in which the Catalans, among others, also made a claim. You can also take a trip to the city of Bosa, famous for its colorful houses, dominated by Malaspina Castle (built by the Malaspina family from the 12th century). A highlight is certainly the pulsating capital Cagliari, whose higher old town center (Il Castello) determines the cityscape.

Of course, the capital Cagliari should not be neglected either: a modern metropolis on the one hand, but a charming holiday village on the other. With 150,000 inhabitants, Cagliari is one of the largest cities in Sardinia. The airport is close to the outskirts. Life rages in the old town, especially from May to October. From the former defense complex Bastion San Remy, which has now been extended by a wide staircase, you have a wonderful view of both the sea and the city.

A few tips for good food and dream hotels:

The Sarti del Gusto in the old town is described by the Michelin Guide as a "small, modern restaurant in a pretty alley in the center", which "is run with passion by the two young owners. Traditional cuisine interpreted in a modern way, accompanied by wines and sparkling wines from the region"

The "Dal Corsaro" is also highly praised as a restaurant that "brings selected products of selected quality, unmistakable finesse, to the point, flavor, a consistently high level of preparation.

Are you looking for a nice accommodation that offers every comfort? Then the Palazzo Doglio is probably ideal. Just 500 meters from the historic center, near the Basilica of San Saturnino and Via Roma, the hotel is located in one of the most picturesque areas of Cagliari
