A cultural trip to Amsterdam

A visit to the capital Amsterdam is not only recommended because of its most beautiful and infinitely long canals, which, with a total length of 80 kilometers, make up a large part of the navigable canals. On the to-do list for a trip to Amsterdam, the classic Amsterdam sights such as the Museumsplein, the Negen Straatjes, a city tour through the Jordan quarter, the Anne Frank House and the Van Gogh Museum should not be missing.

1. Anne Frank House
Almost everyone probably knows them by now, the diary entries of the little Jewish girl Anne Frank, who had to go into hiding with her family to avoid being deported in World War II. Here at the Anne Frank House, which was turned into a museum in 1960, you can learn more about the touching story of Anne and her family.

Through a rear building, which can only be reached via a secret door, you reach the tiny apartment in which the Jewish family had to hole up. Otto Frank, Anne's father, had set up a hiding place for his family here in 1942, where they had to stay for more than two years because it was no longer possible to escape from the Netherlands.

2. Van Gogh Museum
The Van Gogh Museum is a real must for every art connoisseur, but also for anyone who wants to learn more about the moving life of the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh.

In addition to the world's largest collection of his works, which can be admired, you can learn a lot about the artist himself, whose work was only recognized after his death in 1890. The artist left nearly 1,000 individual paintings and many more drawings, much of which went to his brother Theo. It was Theo's wife who, after the death of her husband, brought the works of Vincent van Gogh to the Netherlands and had them exhibited. The Van Gogh Museum only opened its doors in 1973 with over 200 important works of art and 400 drawings by the artist. As sad as the painter's story may be, his art is beautiful and impressive, such as the famous works "Sunflowers", "Cornfield with Crows" or the "Potato Eaters". Today the Van Gogh Museum is one of the most important sights in Amsterdam.

3. Rijksmuseum
Around 8000 masterpieces by artists such as Vermeer, Steen, de Hoochs and rembrandt await you here and give you a deep insight into the Dutch art world.

4. Vondelpark
The park is a popular meeting place for young and old and is often referred to as the "green lung of Amsterdam". The Botanical Garden has a long history, after all it was the first public park in the entire city. After your work is done, look for a nice spot in the meadow or by the water, stroll to the rose garden and enjoy the unique flair of the multicultural city. If you get bored with all the peace and quiet, there are also regular concerts and other events. Music festivals, children's events, open-air cinemas or cabaret performances.

5. Jordan
West of the Prinsengracht you will find the trendy Jordaan district in Amsterdam, which is a popular residential area for the locals. Cozy cafés, trendy shops and galleries invite you to simply stroll around, rummage through hip fashion boutiques and marvel at antique objects. But the day here should also be enriched culturally. In Jordaan, for example, you will find the coveted houseboat museum, where you can take a look inside the "Hendrika Maria" to get an impression of a real historic houseboat.

6. Hermitage Amsterdam
The Hermitage Amsterdam or Hermitage Amsterdam is located south of the city center on the Amstel.

The aim of the Hermitage is to use art and history in the form of exhibitions to make visitors think, inspire and excite them. Here you can look at historical valuables, paintings and important works of art of modern art and constantly changing exhibitions to take a time journey through the past . Each exhibition is completely different and individual, so it's worth stopping by the museum from time to time and letting yourself be carried away.
