Cannes - one of the most beautiful places on earth

Enjoy the shining sun of Cannes long into autumn and immerse yourself in this paradisiacal piece of earth.

The city of Cannes is known worldwide as the capital of cinema. Every year in May, the famous international film festival, which has long been known beyond the country's borders, takes place here. The festival takes place in the Palace of Festivals, easily recognizable by its contemporary architecture. Particularly noteworthy are the white facade with lots of glass and of course the legendary stairs, which are covered with the red carpet, over which the most famous stars from all over the world walk.

Aside from this popular spot with jet setters, the city also has lesser-known streets and places for most tourists that are just as much to discover. Cinema fans can extend the festival atmosphere and admire the many wall frescoes here and there in the city. As a tribute to the great icons of the cinema, some facades adorn the portraits of former or current stars, which were perfectly drawn down to the last detail. This themed path to the film is complemented by the path of the stars, which, like the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard, is provided with the handprints of famous personalities.

Get out of the spotlight for a moment and explore the other Cannes, where life is much more peaceful ... Start with the legendary Suquet district, a former fishing village that is now part of the old part of Cannes, which is located on a Extends hill with sea view. Reliefs, narrow streets, triple flowers and old stones testify to the rich heritage of this district, whose history dates back to a century BC. Goes back! If you'd like to meet the locals, head to Forville Market, which was built in Suquet at the end of the 19th century. There all craftsmen and traders come together with their offers from the sea and from the land and offer a colorful and fragrant range of fresh products.

At the top of the Suquet district, stroll among the ruins of the old medieval castle, whose square tower and machicolation are remarkably well preserved. Walk to the highest point of the district, which towers over the entire city of Cannes and the surrounding area. The peaks of the Alps tower up in the north. In the west you can recognize the Esterel massif by its red rocks and pointed peaks, which are extremely popular with hikers and mountain bikers. In the south are the LĂ©rins Islands. Not far from Cannes, these magical islands invite you to take a nice excursion far from the hustle and bustle of the city. One of the treasures of the archipelago is the island of Saint-Honorat, which is managed by monks and exudes a particularly peaceful atmosphere. There you can taste the wines of the monastery while the cicadas sing.

In the vicinity of the city you should take the path of the "Corniche d'Or", the golden coastal road that towers over the Mediterranean Sea and the Esterel massif, which shimmers in a magical mosaic of green, red and blue tones.

Good to know: If you are in Cannes in the summer, be sure to visit the Fireworks Festival, where the greatest fireworks artists put on a fantastic light and sound show that lights up the black night.
